Vail Newborn Photographer - Baby Harrison

I was excited for my newborn shoots with Baby Harrison for two reasons.  Firstly, I had done big brother Ethan's newborn photos a couple of years ago and secondly, Harrison is one of my favorite names so of course he was going to be a rock star! I'm doing all of my newborn shoots in the studio now, but my recent shoot with Harrison was done at his house.   Sometimes it can be tricky to get wee ones to sleep, but Harrison was amazing and settled right into the bean bag I use for newborn shots.

All newborn shoots come with both color and black and white versions of all of the edited shots.  I usually like a mix of both, but I really loved the black and whites from his session.  Look at all of this cuteness!

Vail Newborn Photos - Rylan

There are two distinct types of newborn photography.  You can take the more staged approach, with backdrops and props, or you can do a more relaxed, lifestyle shoot.  With Baby Rylan's newborn shoot, we were able to incorporate both styles into the one shoot.  We started with several props and backdrops, using the natural light against the windows and we finished the shoot with some sweet family photos.  He definitely didn't want to nap while we had the props out, but as soon as got to have a snuggle he was out! Here are a few of my favorites from his session.

Vail Newborn Photos - Paige

I've had some great photo shoots with Tristan and Trevor over the last couple of years, so when their little baby sister arrived in March, I knew her newborn shoot was going to be high energy and a lot of fun.  As someone with two older brothers, I already had a sweet spot for Paige going into the shoot.  I can tell you, I don't EVER remember my brothers being this sweet though!

Both of the boys were fascinated by their little sister and very gentle with her.  They both wanted to give her loads of kisses and cuddles. She's a lucky wee girl to have such protective boys in her life! The boys were also really curious about my props and backdrops, so I was able to sneak in a few fun shots of them while Paige was changing outfits.

Newborns are my only shoots where I give clients all of their photos in both color and black and white.  I've added a mix of both below and the last photo is a side by side.  Sometimes it's just too hard to choose which one works best!

Vail Newborn Lifestyle Photos - Brooks

When I do my newborn shoots, I take a ton of equipment with me.  I usually have to start packing the night before and I have a long check list that I follow every time, because all of the items are necessary.

When I was asked to take newborn photos for Brooks, his Mom had asked me to do more of a casual lifestyle shoot with no props or backdrops.  I did newborn photos for his brother Ryder a couple of years ago using my normal set up and she wanted something different.  It sounds silly, but I was so excited to do a newborn shoot where I didn't have to haul half of the contents of my garage with me!

We had such a fun time shooting and I'm definitely a fan of this type of shoot.  I'm looking forward to adding more of this style to my portfolio.

Vail Newborn Photos - Hale

Just like life on the farm, spring seems to be a busy time for babies of the human variety to make their way into the world.  I've got two newborn sessions this week, so I figured I better post the photos from my last newborn session with sweet Baby Hale.

Newborn sessions require more time and planning than any other type of photo shoot.  To give you an idea, the amount of items that I take with me will easily fill up the trunk and backseat of my car.  They include blankets, backdrops, backdrop stands, clamps, studio lights, light stands, props, bean bags, accessories, a heater and a heating pad - not to mention my camera equipment!

Thankfully, Hale was a dream and cruised right through his session.  Out of all of the equipment, the heating pad that I use to warm up the blankets is probably the most essential in making sure that the baby will relax.  Hale definitely approved of it.

Vail Newborn Photographer - Yurgaitis Twins

It's not often that I get the opportunity to shoot newborn twins, so I was excited to capture the Yurgaitis Twins recently in Eagle.  Shooting newborns requires and extra level of preparation and different props.  I usually shoot on a single bean bag, but for twins, I prefer to shoot from above and have the babies lying flat on a small foam pad.  You also have to plan for additional time, just in case one baby sleeps and the other doesn't.  It took us about 40 mins to get both girls sleepy and comfortable with sound machines, heat pads, heaters, cuddles and feeding.  Once they were both out, they were really easy to pose and shooting was a breeze.  Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

Vail Newborn Photos - Caden

It's funny how things go in cycles with work.  It's been months since I've done a newborn session and suddenly I've been doing a ton of them.  It must be the spring air!

We did Caden's newborn photos recently and it was important to his Mom and Dad to incorporate some of our unique mountain lifestyle into his photos.  For the first time ever, I got to use golf clubs and a snowboard in baby photos.  We also managed to take some fun family photos at the end of the session.  Welcome to the Valley Caden!

Vail Newborn Photographer - Baby Lola

I'm trying to start 2015 with a clean slate, so it's going to be a December blitz of blog posts for the next couple of weeks, as I try to finish posting photos from some of my favorite sessions this year.  We'll start with Little Miss Lola.  I had just bought a handful of new backdrops from Bubblegum Backdrops and Lola was kind enough to help me test them out.  Being that I live in a houseful of boys, I always love a good girly fix when I can get one.  Didn't she do a great job?!

Newborn Photos in Minturn, CO - Ellory

I feel like I can't start every blog post with 'I'm so far behind on my blog entries', but I really am.  This session is from the beginning of the summer and according to the temperature outside, it's already fall here in the Rockies.

Miss Ellory was fantastic during our newborn session, with her beautiful big blue eyes.  She was so alert and happy to play around the bean bag.  I kept saying over and over again that she reminded me of my kewpie doll that I used to carry around as a child.

More posts to come shortly, in a much more timely manner!  I need to catch up before the fall rush starts.  I can't believe the leaves are changing already!
