Vail Newborn Lifestyle Photos - Brooks

When I do my newborn shoots, I take a ton of equipment with me.  I usually have to start packing the night before and I have a long check list that I follow every time, because all of the items are necessary.

When I was asked to take newborn photos for Brooks, his Mom had asked me to do more of a casual lifestyle shoot with no props or backdrops.  I did newborn photos for his brother Ryder a couple of years ago using my normal set up and she wanted something different.  It sounds silly, but I was so excited to do a newborn shoot where I didn't have to haul half of the contents of my garage with me!

We had such a fun time shooting and I'm definitely a fan of this type of shoot.  I'm looking forward to adding more of this style to my portfolio.

Minturn Family Photos - Greysen's 1st Birthday

After shooting Kimber and Phil's wedding, then the newborn photos for their baby Greysen, I was very excited to shoot Greysen's 1 year photos in Minturn recently.  Minturn is one of my favorite places in the valley.  It's a special place for our family and we take our dog Beans to run and swim there regularly.  It's a quirky, hidden gem in the valley and also one of the most beautiful backdrops for photos with it's magnificent mountainsides.

Lionshead Rock is a large rock formation, in the shape of a lion's head, that protrudes from the mountainside looking out over Minturn.  A large chunk of the rock fell and tumbled down towards the town below earlier this year.  Luckily nobody was hurt, but it did some serious damage to the train tracks that run through the town.  We started our shoot at the far end of town, and then made our way towards the damaged tracks for the last photos of the session.  If you look closely, you can see where the path that the rocks took as they tumbled down the hillside.

3 generations of very tall boys!  We weren't sure if we could get this shot because of the power lines  and their height, but it worked out.

One of the rocks that fell.  There is a much larger rock on the other side of the tracks that was too big to get in the shot.

Lionshead Rock is above and you can see the path the rocks took as they fell towards the town.

Newborn Photos in Edwards, Colorado - Nicholas

Have you ever wondered how newborn photographers are able to get babies to relax for their photos?  I usually have an arsenal of tricks up my sleeve, but every now and again, I have to get creative.  Nicholas hadn't been particularly happy when we started our photo shoot.  He loved having snuggles with his Mama, but every time we put him down for photos, he'd cry.  As many of us mothers know, babies will definitely pick up on your smell, so we figured it might be easier to bring Dad on board to help out.  Luckily, the concept worked, but he still wanted to be held.  The easy fix was to just take the photos while he was being held!  Here are a few  behind the scenes photos and the resulting photos.  As you can see, we were able to get Nicholas to relax afterwards, and we ended up getting some great shots!

Vail Children's Photographer - Parker's 6 Month Photos

Little Parker has come a long way since his newborn session last year.  This little guy has turned into one of the happiest young boys I've ever met.  We only had about 20 minutes for this quick little mini-session for his 6 month (closer to 7 month) photos and he smiled the whole time and let us change him into a few little outfits, including this bow tie and suspenders combo.  I'm looking forward to capturing some family photos with this little guy once the weather warms up around here.  Bring on the sunshine!

Vail Baby Photographer - Paxton's Newborn Photos

I wanted to share a few more photos of Paxton.  He was the handsome little Easter Bunny in my last blog post/tutorial.  We started our session with the bunny outfit and because that went so well, I got a little carried away and we just kept trying more and more ideas with him.  He slept through the pretty much the whole session and was possibly the easiest newborn session I've ever had.  Big brother Ty even got in on the action too.

Here are a few shots from this little supermodel.

Vail Newborn Photographer - Baby Trip in Gypsum Colorado

Spring is definitely springing, but I wouldn't say it's necessarily sprung around here.  In true spring fashion though, I seem to have a lot of baby sessions on the books and the first one I'm going to share is of Baby Trip.  I had a great time capturing those very cute cheeks and he really took a shining to  laying on the bean bag, which helped with a lot of the shots.

The black and white shots are coming out with a sepia tone this morning, so I'm going to work on figuring out why.  Hopefully I'll have it figured out for my next post!

Vail Family Photographer - Maxwell and Harrison in Vail, Colorado

I've officially reached 100 blog posts! As a way of saying thank you to all of my wonderful clients that have let me share their stories, I thought I would put myself in their shoes and share some photos of my little guys.

I don't often get a chance to capture Maxwell and Harrison, but I had some backdrops and props set up from a recent shoot, so I left them up and got the boys in front of them.  This is the style of portrait photography that I like the most.  Simple outfits, clean backdrops, a few props, natural light and minimal photo shop.  The poses aren't perfect because I was hoping to get something more candid.  I figure that Maxwell's funny faces (and his crazy bowl cut) will be things that will make me smile more when I look back on these in years to come.

Thank you to everyone that has been so generous in letting me share their photos.  Maybe I'll post some more of the boys once I hit 200 posts!

Vail Baby Photos - Violet's Valentine's Session

Well, I'm sure everyone is coming down from their sugar highs now that Valentine's Day is out of the way, but I have one more sweet treat to share.  Miss Violet came to have some Valentine's photos taken in early February, and I've been waiting to share them because they were going in a special book for her grandparents as a Valentine's Day gift.

We did a very quick 30 minute session and she was a dream!  We came up with 6 different ideas and she let us change her into all kinds of outfits with different backdrops and props.  I loved some of these ideas, so I need to remember to do something similar with the boys next year.
