Vail Newborn Photographer - Baby Harrison

I was excited for my newborn shoots with Baby Harrison for two reasons.  Firstly, I had done big brother Ethan's newborn photos a couple of years ago and secondly, Harrison is one of my favorite names so of course he was going to be a rock star! I'm doing all of my newborn shoots in the studio now, but my recent shoot with Harrison was done at his house.   Sometimes it can be tricky to get wee ones to sleep, but Harrison was amazing and settled right into the bean bag I use for newborn shots.

All newborn shoots come with both color and black and white versions of all of the edited shots.  I usually like a mix of both, but I really loved the black and whites from his session.  Look at all of this cuteness!

Valentine's Week in the Mountains - Parts I, II and III

I'm celebrating Valentine's all week this week.  With everything that's going on in the world, love should be celebrated as often as possible.  So I'm breaking the week down into three parts, starting with some exciting news.

Part I

As of January 1st, I now have my own little studio in Vail.  It's been an unexpected and fun opportunity and I'm looking forward to getting the word out and getting more people in there.  I'll still be operating a mobile studio, but hopefully this will cut down on schlepping my gear around so much.

We broke the studio in with Valentine's Mini Sessions with some amazing tiny people.  I got a little carried away with investing in Valentine's backdrops, but they were all just so cute.  These aren't even all of them (yes, there's more), but it gives you an idea of some of the fun we've had so far in the new space.

Part II

Chris contacted me about proposing to Eileen at The Vail Observation Deck last week and he was a dream client to work with.  It can be hard to coordinate proposals when clients aren't completely familiar with the mountain.  But Chris was sending ME diagrams with locations, placements and the timing for everything.  This has never happened...EVER!

What Eileen didn't know was that Chris had also flown in their parents.  They were watching the whole proposal from a distance and knew that they could head towards the deck once he got down on one knee.  The third photo shows Eileen's reaction to seeing them all heading to the deck.

It was a gorgeous day and she was completely surprised with everything.  Perfection!

Part III

This morning I had the privilege of shooting a wonderful, heartfelt, self-solemnizing wedding at the top of Beaver Creek Mountain.  To give you some context, yesterday we had an insane blizzard.  10 inches of fresh snow and some of the worst wind we've had all season.  I was looking out the window all day thinking 'this better be gone by tomorrow'.  Thankfully, everything worked out in our favor!

Following their vows, Brynn and Matt asked me to take a run with them down the hill.  We got some fun shots while skiing, but my favorite was the chairlift photo as we made our way back up the mountain (the last photo in the series).

So there you have it. Valentine's week is done and dusted.  I have another proposal next week, so look out for photos from that one!

Lots of ♥, WSP.

Vail Newborn Photographer - Baby Holden

It's not every day that you get to do a newborn shoot in a Four Seasons, but that's exactly where I got to do Baby Holden's newborn photo shoot.  With some help from a good friend who works in valet there, I was able to haul my backdrops, lights and props up to one of the gorgeous residences there.

The Falkes moved in across the road from us about 18 months ago and we became instant friends.  We both had fluffy white dogs, sons that were the same age and then we were both pregnant with our seconds boys at the same time.  Peter worked at the Four Seasons in Vail and recently received a great promotion that meant they needed to move.  So in the space of a few days, they managed to sell their house, have a baby and move to Chicago.  I'm exhausted just thinking about it!  Somewhere in between, they had a few days that they could take up residence at the Four Seasons here, so that's where we did the shoot.

He is such a handsome wee chap and we had a great time getting the photos!  I'm sad to see the Falkes leave the Valley, but I'm also really excited for this exciting new chapter in their lives.

Studio Photos in Eagle Vail with Evan. Through the Lens Series - Entry 13

Evan was only 19 days old the first time I took photos of him and he was small enough to fit in a tiny blue basket as he slept. Fast forward 7 months and now he's a gorgeous baby boy with the longest eyelashes in town! Evan was a dream model and he sat and babbled and giggled for the whole session. He even brought his own sheep. A man after this kiwi girl's heart!

First Birthday photos in Eagle Vail with Emma. Through the Lens Series - Entry 10

I thought that this entry would bring me up to speed on my blog entries, but I'm still one post behind so I'll have to work around the clock to get where I need to be.  The Through the Lens series started as a way of ensuring that I posted at least one entry per week.  Luckily, I've been a busy bee this week with 4 shoots, so I have plenty of material to post here.

Last week marked the first birthday of Miss Emma Louise, so we had ourselves a wee photo shoot to celebrate the occasion.  It was an unseasonably gorgeous day in Vail and I shot the session with our porch door open to let in lots of natural light and we had no problems with temperature.  Our biggest problem was trying to keep Emma and Maxwell from crawling out the door. To have a little girl in my house with lots of ooey gooey pink loveliness was a nice change.  The pink decorations were left over from Emma's first birthday party, so they made for great props.  Kim (Emma's mother and my dear friend) was able to borrow 3 baby chairs for the day.  They were so fun to play around with and the perfect accessory for children that aren't quite standing yet.  I really need to invest in some of those!  The highlight of the shoot was definitely the cake smash.  Emma was more interested in putting her feet in the cake!

Kim and I were pretty exhausted after the shoot so we celebrated on the deck in the spring sunshine with a well deserved glass of wine.  I love the spring time in the Rockies!  Happy first birthday Emma Lou.  xxoo

Maternity Photos in Avon, CO with Desiree and Lucas. Through the Lens Series - Entry 6

This was my first maternity shoot for 2012 and I was so excited to be able to capture such a beautiful moment in time for this amazing couple.  Desiree is a fellow photographer, so between the 2 of us, we had a ton of ideas to play around with different backdrops and props.   We were really lucky to have amazing natural light that day, which I always prefer because it saves me from lugging a big lighting rig around.

You just need to take one look at these photos to see who the real scene stealer was.  In the Vail Valley, our dogs ARE our babies.  Clearly Miss Maddie is excited to meet the new addition to her household and it only took a few treats and lots of loving to get her to get in on the photos.  Isn't she adorable?!

If you know any engaged couples residing in Colorado, make sure to tell them about the Valentine's Day Engagement Photo Shoot Giveaway!  I'm giving away a 2 hour Engagement Photo session to once lucky couple and it's simple to enter.  Just click on the banner below or go to http://www.facebook.com/WhiteStarfishPhotography for more info.  There's only 7 days left!

Marcy, Jen and Trace in Eagle Vail. Through the Lens - Entry 3

Marcy has to be one of the busiest women living in Vail.  She runs her own sewing and clothing alterations company, she's a well respected Doula and she's also the leader and founder of Mountain Mama Care.  Mountain Mama Care is a group of small businesses based in the Vail Valley that offer services to new parents and new parents-to-be.  There's no scientific evidence to back up my theory, but I feel like there's a baby boom going on in the Valley right now, so if you know of anyone that's expecting, or they've just had a baby, please have them check out the website - www.mountainmamacare.com.

It's pretty rare to find 3 generations from one family living here in Vail, but Marcy is one of the lucky few.  Her daughter Jen lives here also and we had a fun mini session last week with Jen's 4 month old, Trace.  Here are a few photos from the session.
