Vail Senior Photographer - Kasey's Senior Photos at the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens in Vail, Colorado

Kasey has been coming to Vail for vacations her whole life, so I was honored when she asked me to take her high school senior photos on her recent trip here.  We initially thought we'd take the photos on Vail Mountain, but later decided it would be easier and just as beautiful to take the photos at The Betty Ford Alpine Gardens.

Kasey came to the shoot extremely prepared.  She'd hired a beach cruiser from Vail Village as a prop and she'd done a walk through the day before with her parents to look at different locations within the gardens and to figure out which outfits she'd like to wear at each spot.  Needless to say, it was one of the easiest photo shoots I'd ever done because she knew exactly what she wanted.  Perfect!

These are some shots of the gorgeous Miss Kasey that I particularly liked.  I mentioned in a recent post that I had a lot of new software to learn, so excuse the blatant overuse of my logo in the pictures below.  I'm still trying to figure out these new templates!

Adrianna's Senior Photos in Edwards, Colorado

It's been over 2  months since my last my post, and although this is technically not a good idea, it was nice to have a bit of a break.  I have lots of fun stuff to post, but I wanted to start with some graduation photos that I did of Adrianna last week.  I love the spring in the Rockies, but it can also be a bit of a headache if you're doing anything outdoors that requires good weather.  We started Adrianna's photos on a Sunday afternoon that was unseasonably cold, but still manageable.  After we'd been out shooting for about 15 minutes, everything changed and a huge blizzard rolled in.  Although this made for some gorgeous photos (see below), it wasn't much fun for Adrianna, as she was wearing a cute sun dress.  So, we re-scheduled the rest of the photos for a few days later and it was definitely worth it.  We drove up to Lake Creek in Edwards (my dream place to live!) and found an amazing spot with the New York range in the background.  Here are a few of my favorite photos from the shoot.  I love the sassy red boots!

Akilah's Senior Photos in Denver. Through the Lens Series, Entry 29.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about how much I enjoy shooting engagement photos because you have a subject that you can communicate with and there's not as much pressure as a wedding.  I also think that Senior Photos fall squarely into that category too.

The Senior Photo market in Vail is pretty over saturated, so it's not often that I get to do these shoots.  However, last week I got take some photos of the beautiful Akilah in Denver.  We decided to take the photos in a business park in Centennial.  Business park's are known for being rather stale pieces of green in the middle of concrete stacks (or maybe that's just from my years in London), but this one had some great scenery and plenty of opportunities for some fun backdrops.

Now, just to go off on a quick tangent, I have to say that I get a little worried at times about that way people communicate these days.  We're always constantly on the phone, emailing, texting...or even blogging!  I'm guilty of it just as much as anyone.  Sometimes I'll look up and I'll be on my iPad and Russ will be working on his laptop and it makes me shudder at the thought that Maxwell might never be able hold a decent conversation because of the direction that we all seem to be heading in the 'age of communication'.

However, after having the opportunity to meet Akilah and her wonderful family, it's put a lot of those fears to rest.  She was so lovely and unbelievably sweet!  She's clearly been raised in a loving family.  It's not every day that I get to have a Mom, Dad and brother come along to a photo shoot.  Along with my dear friend Shez, they were kind enough to keep an eye on Maxwell and let Akilah and I go off and take some photos.  Did I mention there was a huge pond in this park?  With ducks in it?  Maxwell was determined to get in there with them!

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the shoot.  I'm still trying to figure out why Blogger seems to dull down my photos.  They look so vibrant and colorful and every time I upload them onto here, they seem to fade a little.

Senior Photos in Vail, Colorado with Ashton in Vail Village.

I knew it was going to be a fantastic session when Ashton told me she wanted something different for her senior photos. After discussing where we should take the photos, Ashton finally came up with the idea of taking them at Solaris. We had a lot of fun getting these pics and the lighting was amazing!

Now, if you don't reside in the US, you're probably wondering what on earth Senior Photos are or questioning why I have contracted myself out to the retirement community.  Senior Photos are taken at the start of your last year of high school and they are to be used in your year book.  They're also a great way capturing people just before they make the transition into the crazy and exciting world that is life after high school.  Does this bring back some memories?!
