Vail Maternity Photos - Lindsay and Chad

The temps in Colorado are creeping slowly towards the 100 degree mark (37 degrees Celsius) so why not post some snowy pics from this winter right?  We decided to do Lindsay and Chad's maternity session along the river front in Avon because it was close to the Westin and we could duck inside if the weather changed or if it got too cold.  Luckily, we had great weather and awesome lighting.  A few weeks later I was able to do a newborn session for them, as they welcomed little Riley to their family.  Scroll to the bottom to see one of the pics of their gorgeous wee girl from her newborn session.

Vail Family Photography - Karetas Family

Michele contacted me to book her session while I was on my recent trip to New Zealand.  I knew it was going to be a fun session when she mentioned she wanted something similar to the photos of the royal family playing in the snow in Europe.  From the other side of the world, I'd also seen the photos and thought that sounded like a great idea.

A couple of days after I'd arrived back in the country, we met up in Lionshead and set out on a little adventure along the Gore Range.  It turns out that Michele is Greek and is from Atlanta.  Firstly, I'm slightly obsessed with Greek food, so I had all kinds of questions for her.  Secondly, half of my family lives in Georgia, so we had plenty to discuss between photos.  It was such a great session and the perfect way for me to stay awake while dealing with a dreadful case of jet lag!

Vail Mountain Family Photographer - Simon Family

The 2015/2016 ski season is officially over, although if you looked out my window right now, you might wonder why!  Now that our little town is back to a much smaller population, most businesses either shut up shop and go on vacation or run heavily discounted specials for the locals that are sticking around.  For me, it means a chance to catch up on posting some previous sessions to this blog.

My session with the Simon Family took place on New Year's Day this year, just outside Mid-Vail restaurant on Vail Mountain.  With three generations, a service dog and different levels of skiing capabilities, it was important to find a location that was easily accessible with stunning mountain views.  With a gondola running into Mid-Vail, our spot was about as perfect as it gets.

With the unbelievable views of the Gore Range and a much slower day on the mountain (due to sore heads around town), we were able to capture some awesome family shots.  Here are a few of my favorites from their session.

Vail Newborn Photos - Caden

It's funny how things go in cycles with work.  It's been months since I've done a newborn session and suddenly I've been doing a ton of them.  It must be the spring air!

We did Caden's newborn photos recently and it was important to his Mom and Dad to incorporate some of our unique mountain lifestyle into his photos.  For the first time ever, I got to use golf clubs and a snowboard in baby photos.  We also managed to take some fun family photos at the end of the session.  Welcome to the Valley Caden!

Vail Engagement Photos - Kristi and Evan

Kristi and Evan's engagement session was so much fun and the weather conditions were perfect!  Sometimes it can be hard to predict what kind of weather we're going to get, and we definitely got lucky the night we shot their session.  We'd just had a huge dump of fresh snow and everything was looking like a fairytale, with snow clumps on the trees and giant mounds of snow in the Gore Creek.

As two Air Force pilots, Kristi and Evan were obviously outgoing and they were up for walking through some deep snow to get the best shots.  They also both really love to two-step so we had some impromptu dancing in the snow, which I LOVED!  Here are a couple of my favorite shots from their awesome session.

Beaver Creek Family Photos - The Higers

The boys and I are back from a 1 month stint in New Zealand and we're hitting the ground running.  It's a little bit of culture shock to go from swimming in the ocean to shooting in the snow, but here we are!

My session with the Higers actually took place before we left, but I wanted to post them now to show you how crazy the conditions can be when shooting in the valley.  I always say that my clients are the best and the bravest and these photos should give you a good idea why.

We started the session at the Mirabelle at the base of Beaver Creek.  We had blue skies and sunshine and everyone was comfortable in sweaters.  Keep in mind that this was a one hour session.  If you scroll to the last photo, you'll see how things turned within 40 minutes.  Needless to say, we spent the last 20 minutes shooting in front of the giant fireplace at the Park Hyatt!

Vail Photographer - Playing Catch Up - Part III

This is the last of the posts from last year and my next post will start with the events of 2016 so far.  In the mean time, I'm going to get back to packing my bags.  Thanks to all of my amazing customers for your patronage.  You are the reason that I'm able to take my children back to New Zealand to spend time with our family and get some family photos of our own!

I love bright clothing colors against the snow! This shoot was just last week on Vail Golf Course and everyone was very brave to tough it out in the cold weather

One of my favorite spots outside the The Chapel at Beaver Creek. It's an unbeatable backdrop, all year round
The stars had to align to make this shot happen. This was a super rare occurence where we had a clear walking path on the Beaver Creek Golf Course that ended at the perfect spot in front of the mountain. 2 days later it was under a foot of snow. So stoked it worked!

After living here for 13 years, it's always nice to learn about new spots for shoots. We did this shoot on the road to Fulford and it was totally new terrain for me. It was gorgeous for early fall photos and that little smile is so crazy cute!

High School Senior Photos taken on Vail Mountain.  This is a great spot to shoot and it's the highest point that the public can drive up the mountain.

Another High School Senior session, this time in Vail Village. This was taken from the International Bridge looking east. Depending on where the sun is, this shot doesn't always work, but we nailed it in this early fall shoot.

A Vow Renewal on Vail Mountain to celebrate a 20th Wedding Anniversary.

Family Photo taken in the heart of Vail.  Note all of the greenery.  I'm looking forward to seeing some of that again soon!
