Vail Family Photos - Hull Family

I love it when everything comes together perfectly for a shoot. Good lighting, great scenery and happy kids. That's what happened recently when Erin contacted me to do a session with her whole family that were visiting from Florida. They were blown away by the mountain scenery and all I wanted to hear about was living near the ocean. Go figure!

Vail Wedding Photographer - Connie and Stephen

In a previous life, I used to organize weddings on Vail's stunning wedding deck. Our little team could hold up to 5 weddings a day on the deck, so we spent a lot of time running up down the aisle and shooing away overly-curious tourists!

Although I don't miss that chaos, it's always nice to be able to go back to my old stomping ground as a photographer. Connie and Stephen's recent wedding was no exception! It was a stunning day, with lots of laughs and a heartfelt ceremony. Here are a few of my faves from their big day.

Leadville Family Photography - Gurka Family

One of the most basic rules of photography is to avoid shooting in bright sunlight, and head for the shade if you're in that situation. However, if you're shooting in the snow, it can act like a massive reflector board and can provide amazing light - which is exactly what we had for the Gurka's session in Leadville. The views of all the 14er mountains in the background were spectacular and it was such a gorgeous day! The session ended with a snowball fight - naturally :)

Beaver Creek Family Photographer - The Del Boscos

I would estimate that 90% of my photo sessions are for destination guests, so it's always a treat when I get to do photos for a friend.  Pam and I used to sit right beside each other when I worked for Vail Resorts, and there was always a constant stream of laughter. The Group Sales girls always loved hearing about Pam's travels (she's been everywhere!), seeing photos of her family and gushing over her very extensive wardrobe. It was so fun to be able to capture a few photos of her beautiful family!

Vail Bachelorette Party - Lionshead

I'm getting more and more requests to shoot Bachelorette Parties and they're such a fun new type of shoot to get involved with. These gorgeous girls were visiting from California and had spent the afternoon designing their own flower crowns, with flowers they'd bought on their way to Vail.

Let's be honest - there are usually parts of bachelorette parties that you probably don't want captured (thank goodness there's little photographic evidence from mine...).  However, these girls were very smart to have me capture them before the sun went down.  We spent some time wandering around Lionshead, making the most of the beautiful blue skies, the scenery and their flower crowns!

Vail Wedding Photographer - Brittany and Terrance

Brittany and Terrance's recent wedding at The Sebastian - Vail was such a pleasure to shoot! Their family and friends were so supportive and sweet and the location was just a few steps to Vail Village, making it easy to take advantage of some of Vail's finest landmarks for photos. We were able to grab a few photos on The International Bridge, Gore Creek drive with views of a snow capped Gore Range and The Covered Bridge before heading back to Leonora for the reception.

Here are a few of my faves from their special day.

Breckenridge Family Photos - Matousek Family

I love Breckenridge!  Don't get me wrong - Vail is great, but there's something about the history and the main street area at Breck that I just adore.

I had a recent shoot there with the Matousek family and we headed up Boreas Pass to make the most of the mountain views. The check list for the shoot was to include aspens, rock formations and mountain views.  We went up the pass and made about 4 stops along the way.  The last stop was about as far as I was willing to go. Holy drop off it was steep! I had to do an Austin Powers 50 point turn to get out of there.  It was well worth it though!

Vail Family Photographer - Totzke and Festerling Family

Theoretically, we have 3 weeks of summer left.  However, we've been getting plenty of snow around these parts in the last couple of weeks, which was a good reminder to get some of my spring photos posted to the blog.

I've mentioned a new favorite location on the Beaver Creek Golf Course that only works for shooting approx. 2 days a year.  For 1 day in the fall and 1 day in the spring, a clear asphalt path is accessible through the snow, and clients can stand on the path for their photos as opposed to sinking in waist deep snow.  The most unique feature of the spot is that Beaver Creek Mountain is squarely in the background.

The Totzke and Festerling families just happened to book their sessions on a day this spring where the path was clear.  We made the most of it by taking several shots of both families in front of the mountain, before heading up to the Beaver Creek Chapel to finish the sessions.

Originally we were going to do 2 separate sessions, but we decided last minute to shoot both families in 1 session.  Thankfully this was a wonderful idea because as I drove home from the session, a massive blizzard moved in would have ruined any shooting later that day!
